How to use the siding calculator

  1. Measure the actual project. Break irregular work into separate sections and record finished dimensions consistently.
  2. Enter the core measurements. The quick view focuses on project geometry; add or subtract sections where the calculator supports multiple areas.
  3. Review purchasing assumptions. Open Advanced inputs to replace example prices, waste, coverage, density, pack size, minimum order, or delivery assumptions with current project information.
  4. Calculate and verify. Review the formula, limitations, whole-unit rounding, product instructions, and supplier requirements before purchasing.

Key inputs covered: Cut and waste allowance, Carton coverage, Carton example price, Fastener allowance, Fastener example price, Starter-strip length, J-channel length, Corner-post length, Accessory example rate, Area operation, and additional project-specific assumptions.

Result coverage: The siding calculator reports 7 separate quantities so the primary estimate and its supporting purchase or planning values can be checked together.

Estimate siding area, squares, and panels

Measure exterior wall sections and gables, subtract doors and windows, and convert net area into siding squares or product coverage with waste and editable prices.

Walls, gables, and openings

Keep each elevation or shape separate so deductions remain traceable. Triangular gables use one-half times base times height.

Siding coverage and accessories

Nominal dimensions may differ from installed exposure. Corners, starter, trim, soffit, fascia, flashing, and complex cuts must follow the selected system's instructions.

How the estimate works

Added wall and gable shapes minus entered deductions produce net area; waste converts this to siding squares and cartons, while accessories remain explicit linear measurements.

One siding square represents 100 ft²; carton count uses the editable coverage printed for the selected product.

Assumptions, rounding, and limitations

Dimensions are treated as finished measurements. Only deductions and allowances entered above are included. Decimal measurements display to two places; purchase quantities round up when a whole container or piece is required.

  • Confirm carton coverage and accessory profiles for the selected siding system.
  • Large openings may be entered as subtract areas; smaller openings can reasonably contribute to cutting allowance.
  • Flashing, water-resistive barrier, fastening, clearances, and wind requirements follow manufacturer instructions and local code.

Frequently asked questions

Are the results exact?

No. Results are planning estimates based on the dimensions and assumptions entered. Confirm product coverage, site conditions, and ordering rules with the supplier.

How many square feet are in a siding square?
